DOWNLOAD RANGE STANDING ORDERS

NAME AND LOCATION OF RANGE AND EACH FIRING AREA

The range is located to the West of the airport and South of highway 3 on Deh Cho Blvd.
N 62° 28’ 02”  W 114° 28’ 23”. Follow signs.
The range consists of the following firing areas:

  1. Trap range;
  2. Smallbore Silhouette range;
  3. High Power range;
  4. Handgun range; and
  5. Plinking range.

RANGE SAFETY OFFICER

Firing during scheduled club/section activities will take place only under the supervision of an approved Range Safety Officer (RSO) who is qualified and appointed by the Senior Range Safety Officer.

During casual firing, if two or more people are shooting on one of the ranges, one must assume the duties of RSO for that range.

RSO instructions will be followed immediately.

RSO DUTIES

RSO’s are responsible for:

  1. The safe conduct of all firing within their range;
  2. Targets are set up to ensure all bullets are directed straight down range and remain within the confines of the firing area;
  3. Co-ordinate with other area RSO’s/shooters for the safe movement of personnel downrange;
  4. Ensuring there is no handling of uncased firearms while people are down range;
  5. Ensuring there is no movement forward of the 100 yard line on the High Power range while there is firing on the Silhouette, Handgun or Plinking  range; and
  6. Ensuring range signs/flag are set as required;
    1. On Arrival:
      1. Red Flag raised.
    2. On Departure:
      1. Red Flag lowered

RANGE SAFETY & ETIQUETTE

Restricted and Prohibited firearms must be logged in each time they are brought to the range. Registry book is located on the side of the Pistol Range Shelter. See on the Range Diagram for location.

Hearing protection is mandatory and eye protection is recommended any time live firing is taking place.

All will display a current membership badge or guest card while on the range.

Pick up and dispose of all spent hulls and brass, a brass-recycling container is present on the High Power range.

Used targets are to be removed from target backers, and with other refuse to be placed in garbage cans provided.

When arriving at the range check to ensure no one is down range setting targets or conducting range maintenance before setting up and shooting.


Never handle an uncased firearm while people are down range.


No movement forward of the 100 yard line on the High Power Range until a cease fire has been called on the Silhouette, Handgun and Plinking range and they are declared safe.
There is a possible ricochet danger.

All shooting will stop on all ranges when low flying aircraft are crossing the range.

THE FOLLOWING ARE PROHIBITED AT ANY TIME:

Pointing a firearm at a person
Explosive ammunition or devices;
Incendiary ammunition or devices;
Gas ammunition or devices;
Armour Piercing, Steel Core, and Tracer ammunition;
.50 BMG ammunition;
Climbing on or placing targets on any berm;
Loading of any firearm except at the firing line and then only when it is safe to do so; and
Glass, shattering targets, appliances and other debris.

RANGE FACILITY      See Range Diagram

TRAP RANGE
Location:                       On the left of the access road facing south.

Approved Firearms:       Shotguns only.

Shot Size:                       7, 7 ½, 8, and 9 size shot only to be used.

Targets:                         Clay or Paper Targets.

Firing Line:                     All firing will take place from the designated firing pads.

Portable throwers and hand thrown clays must be thrown from the right side of the right hand house. The shooter must be positioned forward of the hand thrower. Clays will only be thrown in the general direction of the radar tower. (See   on Range Diagram)

SMALLBORE SILHOUETTE RANGE
Location:                          Facing west on the extreme left.

Approved Firearms:          Rifles and handguns.

Approved Ammunition:     Standard Velocity .22 Long Rifle Only.

Firing Distances:               40, 60, 77 and 100 meters.

Approved Targets:            Steel reactive (not closer than 10 meters) and paper.

Firing Line:                        All firing will take place from the concrete pad.

There will be NO firing whenever people are forward of the 100 yard line on the High Power line.

HIGH POWER RANGE
Location:                           Center facing west.

Approved Firearms:           Rifles and handguns.  (NO SHOTGUNS)

Approved Ammunition:      .22 and up. (NO .50 BMG)
Targets at the right hand berm (pig berm) are restricted to .308 Class, as defined by the Range Design and Construction Guidelines, and below

Firing Distances:                Berms at 50, 100, 150, 200, 300 yards.

Approved Targets:             Paper and Steel reactive (Silhouettes and silhouette swingers (not closer than 10m)).

General Note
Approved targets do not include garbage, glass, computers, or appliances.


Firing Line:                         All firing will take place from the concrete pads or the raised line unless participating in a club sanctioned activity / discipline.

There will be NO movement forward of the 100 yard line while the Silhouette, Handgun or Plinking range is live.

HANDGUN RANGE
Location:                            Right facing west.

Approved Firearms:            Handguns ONLY.

Approved Ammunition:       Conventional handgun calibers not damaging to steel targets or steel                                            bullet trap on the range.

Firing Distances:                 50 yards.

Approved Targets:              Steel reactive (not closer than 10m) and paper.

General Note Approved targets do not include garbage, glass, computers, or appliances

Firing Line:                         ALL FULL DISTANCE (50 yards) firing will take place from the concrete pads. In the case of firing at CLOSER range targets, the firing line will move forward to ensure all shots are captured in the covered terminal berm.


There will be NO firing whenever people are forward of the 100 yard line on the High Power line.

PLINKING RANGE
Location:                             Extreme right facing west.

Approved Firearms:             Rifle, Handguns and Shotgun

Approved Ammunition:        .22 Cal, Muzzleloader any caliber and Shotgun, all shot sizes and slugs.
                         
Firing Distances:                  50 yards.

Approved Targets:               Paper and stationary clay.

Firing Line:                          All firing will take place from the area of the tables. In the case of firing at closer range targets, the firing line must move forward to ensure all shots are captured by the terminal berm.

There will be NO firing whenever people are forward of the 100 yard line on the High Power line.

GUEST AND SPECTATORS

Adult members only may sponsor a guest. Guests (children and adults) are the responsibility of the sponsoring member.

A guest may visit the range two (2) times per year. Each time the sponsored guest must purchase a Guest Pass for $5.00. The pass is valid for the day of issue. This is to cover insurance and legal obligations.

The Guest Pass is in two (2) parts and are filled out by the sponsoring member. The small end of the pass along with the fee is to be placed in an envelope and placed in the box on the side of the bin.

ALCOHOL/DRUGS

There is absolutely no alcohol or drugs allowed on any part of the range facility at any time.
         

Any person suspected by the RSO to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be permitted to shoot and will be asked to leave the range.

Minor Injury

STABILISE INJURIES AND OBTAIN WHATEVER MEDICAL AID IS REQUIRED

Major incident or gunshot injury

MAKE THE FIRING LINE /INCIDENT AREA SAFE.
STABILISE INJURIES AND OBTAIN WHATEVER MEDICAL AID IS REQUIRED.
PRESERVE THE INCIDENT SCENE TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT POSSIBLE FOR FUTURE INVESTIGATION.
CLOSE THE RANGE, LEAVE GUARD IF POSSIBLE.

NOTIFY THE FOLLOWING:

            RCMP if gunshot injury is involved;
            YKSC SENIOR EXECUTIVE:
                        President or;
                        Vice-President or;
                        Secretary; and
                        Chief Range Officer.
            RECORD THE CIRCUMSTANCES:
                        Who was there;
                        When did it happen; and
                        What happened.

Shooting Performance Centre Rules and Conditions of Use

1.    NO FIREARMS of any kind are ALLOWED ON THE PREMISES.

2.    AIRGUNS ONLY are permitted. (Airguns with a muzzle velocity greater than 500 ft/second are considered to be Firearms)

3.    Only Lead Pellets are permitted.

4.    This Range is open to members of YKSC and NWTFSS and their Guests. Guests must be registered ($5 registration fee). All members and guests must sign the register. Membership cards or guest cards must be displayed openly.

5.    Junior Team Scheduled Practice and Scheduled Junior Clinics have Priority. Contact the Facilities Officer or YKSC executive for bookings.

6.    Treat this range like your home. Help keep it clean. You are responsible for damage to finishes.

7.    Food and drink are permitted only in the waiting area. You are responsible for clean-up of all garbage and any spills.

8.    Dispose of all used targets or take them home.

9.    Floor must be cleaned and signed-off as clean in the register at the end of each session.
